Kyle Macy, one of the Commonwealth of Kentucky's best known and
most popular basketball figures, is set for his ninth season as
the Head Men's Basketball coach at Morehead State University.
Following the 2004-05 season, Macy coached a group of Sports
Reach collegiate all-stars that toured China and finished with a
perfect 7-0 record against several Chinese professional teams.
A native of Indiana, Macy has been inducted into the Indiana
Basketball Hall of Fame. He joined such basketball greats as
Larry Bird and Oscar Robertson as a unanimous selection.
His 2003-04 Eagle squad finished 16-13 overall, third in the
Ohio Valley Conference regular season standing and advanced to
the semifinals of the league tournament for the third
consecutive season and advanced to the semifinals of the league
tournament for the third consecutive season and for the fourth
time during his tenure.
The 2002-03 Eagles tied for the OVC regular season championship.
The 20 wins posted that season were the most by an Eagle squad
since the NCAA tournament team of 1983-84. In keeping with the
outstanding shooting ability of their head coach, the 2002-03
Eagles led the nation in field goal shooting after the 2001-02
squad led the nation in free throw percentage.
Macy, born in Kendalville, Ind., and a high school standout at
Peru (Ind.) High School, was a two-time All-American at the
University of Kentucky and played on the Wildcats' 1978 national
championship team. He played three seasons at Kentucky after
spending one season at Purdue.
Following his collegiate career, he spent seven seasons in the
NBA, playing for the Phoenix Suns (5), Chicago Bulls (1) and
Indiana Pacers (1). In all seven of his NBA seasons his team
qualified for the playoffs. He also played three season in the
Italian professional league.
From 1993 through 1997, he served as the color analyst for the
University of Kentucky Radio Network's broadcasts of Wildcat
basketball. He has also worked with Host Creative TV, Host
Communications Radio, Raycom Television Sports, Sports Channel,
Mutual Radio, ESPN, WVLK-Radio and Westwood One Radio.
From August 1994, until he became the Eagle coach, he was a
Correspondent Banking Officer for Central Bank & Trust Company
in Lexington.
Macy's annual basketball camp has been held for more than 25
years and more than 1,000 youngsters and 125 coaches participate
annually. He has also produced an instructional basketball video
and published a high school basketball preview.
Each winter, the Kyle Show is a fixture on WKYT-TV, the CBS
affiliate in Lexington, KY. The show includes highlights and
features about MSU basketball and Macy's thoughts and comments
on the college game.
The 48-year only Macy and his wife, Tina have two daughters,
Mallory and Meredith, and a son, Malone. |
