WELCOME TO
MOREHEAD STATE UNIVERSITY
The Morehead State University Campus is nestled quietly between
the entrance to the Daniel Boone National Forest and the base of
the Appalachian Mountain Range in Northeast Kentucky. With an
enrollment of approximately 6,500 on campus and 9,000 overall,
students enjoy a friendly close-knit atmosphere. Southern
Hospitality, is alive and well at Morehead State University.
There are few if any giant lecture halls with 300 plus students
in a class and you are known by your name not just your social
security number. Student to teacher ratios in the classroom
average 19 to 1, which means you will receive a great amount of
individual attention.
When referring to the size of our campus, I like to tell my
players that it is a good news bad news situation. Good, in that
if you do something well everyone knows about it, and bad, that
if you 'screw up', everyone knows about it too! Campus is easily
accessible as any location is walk-able within 10 minutes. The
dorms and classroom buildings are intermingled throughout
campus, which makes for smooth flowing transitions for the
student body. Morehead State University was founded in 1887 as
Morehead Normal School and this historical existence has been
preserved by the majority of the building on campus, which are
constructed of red brick and concrete. This combination, along
with beautiful landscaping throughout campus, presents a warm
collegiate feel. Tradition is important and not forgotten at
Morehead, and recently refurbished buildings exemplify this as
new construction is designed to match older existing buildings.
From the changing of the leaves of the National Forest to the
sprouting of new life in the Valley of the Hills, as you might
imagine, the Fall and Spring seasons are breathtaking on campus.
Morehead State University has something to offer for everyone.
Educationally, Morehead State is once again ranked as one of the
top 25 public universities in the 2006 Edition of Americas Best
Colleges by US News and World Report and recreationally, you can
enjoy a quiet peaceful setting up on Eagle Lake or the hustle
and bustle of the heart of campus surrounding the Adrian Doran
University Center. All this and your still only a few blocks
walk to Main Street in Downtown Morehead.
